It provides insight on how researchers can use new technologies and methodologies to enhance research, how to secure funding and collaborate with other researchers, and how to communicate their findings effectively to different audiences.

It will also provide insights on how to develop a flexible and creative mindset, and how to leverage their strengths and skills in the changing landscape of research.

At the end of the presentation, the audiences are expected to have a better understanding of how to navigate the world of research and achieve their goals.

About the Speaker

Professor Ir. Dr. Abdul Latif Ahmad

Professor Ir. Dr. Abdul Latif was the Director of Nexus Engineering, USM for 2017-2019, the Dean of School of Chemical Engineering, USM for 2005-2010 and Research Dean, Science Fundamental Platform for 2010-2012. Virtually, he is the Head for Membrane Science and Technology Cluster at USM. He has been appointed as a member of Board of Governors USM (2022-2023).

He obtained his BEng, MSc and PhD from the University of Wales, Swansea, UK. Being a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow to The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) UK, he is frequently being appointed by IChemE to accredit Chemical Engineering Program in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. He also has served as an evaluator for numerous national and international research grants.

His enthusiasm and dedication towards his research works have been reflected in his achievements in winning prestigious awards including Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Khwarizmi International Award by the Iranian Ministry of Science and Technology, Novel Engineering Solution (NES) Award by the IChemE UK, TWAS Prize in Engineering Sciences by the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) Italy, Rotary Research Gold Medal Award by the Rotary Club Kuala Lumpur, Science & Technology Award by Malaysia Toray Science Foundation (MTSF), and Merdeka Award by the Government of Malaysia. To-date, a total of 60 personal achievement awards and 69 research product awards have been won.

His active participation in scientific research has also been exhibited by being the recipient of multiple research grants in various disciplines sponsored by government and non-government bodies, with a cumulative value of more than RM 35 million. His capability in carrying out quality research work of international standard has been further supported by publication of almost 530 articles in indexed refereed journals. With current cumulative citation number of 27,404 and h-index of 71, he is one of the World’s Most Influential Scientific Mind and Highly Cited Researcher in 6 years in a row, a recognition given by Clarivate Analytics. As a tenacious educator, he showed dedication towards the supervision of postgraduate students, by successfully graduating 57 PhD and 83 master students.
